Saint Timothy Catholic Church
1515 Dolan Avenue
San Mateo
Saint Timothy Church was established as an unnamed mission of Saint Matthew Parish in 1952. To serve the growing population on the peninsula, five acres of land was purchased in the Shoreview area of San Mateo. Rev. Edward J. Meagher, Pastor of Saint Matthew lead the effort to build the new church.
The church was designed by San Francisco architect Vincent Buckley in 1952. It was built in 1954 by W. A. Moroney, general contractor, San Mateo. Saint Matthew parishioners and organizations contributed significantly to the church building fund and donated many of the art pieces in the church.
Saint Timothy Parish was established by Archbishop John Joseph Mitty on July 9, 1954, about the time the church building was completed. Rev. Joseph A. Fitzpatrick was the first pastor.
The beautiful stained glass windows in the church were created in 1954 by Carl Huneke, Century Stained Glass Studio, San Francisco. The angelic faces, graceful hands, and flowing garments are typical of his lovely art.
Carl Huneke also created the stained glass windows in the chapel of the parish office.
