Saint Joan of Arc Church
6404 Washington Street
Yountville
Saint Joan of Arc Parish was established in 1921. The church was built the same year. Since that time, the church has been remodeled several times. The main entrance to the church was once where the baptistry is now. In 1983, a major renovation was accomplished, with new wiring, interior changes which kept the beautiful columns and woodwork details and added accent colors and lighting.
At that time, Eugene Koltz created the beautiful reredos behind the altar from the exotic woods Brazilian purple heart, Honduras mahogany, African black wenge, and Indian vermilion padauk.
Several stained glass artists created the brilliant windows in the church. The first stained glass windows apparently were installed by a San Francisco designer at the time the church was built. The window “Christ in the Garden of Gethsemane”, adapted from the famous painting of 1902 by Heinrich Hofmann is typical of those windows.
The Saint Christopher window in the choir was designed and installed in 1958 by Carl Huneke, Century Stained Glass Studio, San Francisco.
Saint Joan of Arc, Saint Jude, Virgen of Guadelupe, the IHS and the doorway windows were created from 1986 to 1990 by Jerry Sinclair, Gothic Art Glass, Napa. Gothic Art Glass also restored all the older windows in the Church.
