Church of The Good Shepherd
901 Oceana Boulevard
Pacifica
Pacifica was a mission of Holy Angels in Colma, and mass was held in a commercial building in Rockaway Beach until Good Shepherd Parish was established on October 1, 1951. A home on Brighton Road served as the first rectory. Mass was held in the living room which was converted to a chapel, complete with pews and altar.
The present church building was completed in June of 1953. It was designed by Vincent Raney and built by Carrico and Gautier Construction. The building was expanded in 1962 by adding the side aisle seating. At that time, Carl Huneke, Century Stained Glass Studio, San Francisco created the twelve beautiful stained glass clerestory windows. They represent the Sacraments and other symbols of the Faith.
Classes were first held in the parish in September 1968.
The church building was remodeled once again in 1972.
Stella Pilgrim, a parishioner, created the statue of The Good Shepherd which faces the sea at the entrance drive.
The new multi-purpose building was completed in April 1996.
