St. Helen-Drawings
Original Drawings
St. Helen’s Catholic Church
The sketches for Saint Helen’s Convent (now the office chapel) were conceptual and were intended to convey the overall design for the Convent. They also allowed ideas to be explored before the full sized working “Cartoon” was created for the cutting and assembly for the finished window. The sketches are watercolor on posterboard.
Office Chapel
2 1/2" x 10"
The sketch shows overall design features of the windows, and is the Hope figure in the center of the Faith, Hope, Charity triptych.
2" x 6"
The sketch shows a crowned figure with hands in prayer. The final window was changed to include the infant Jesus on the right arm and a scepter in the left hand.
2" x 6"
The sketch and the final window are almost identical except that the figure in the sketch looks left, and the figure in the window looks right.
2" x 6"
The sketch and the window are very similar except that the hand of the figure in the sketch falls open to the left and the left hand of the figure in the window folds under the right.
