Grimes Community Church
360 West Main Street
Grimes
The First Baptist Church of Grimes was organized on May 13, 1871. For several years, members worshipped at the old Franklin Schoolhouse.
The church building was completed in March, 1875 on land donated by Cleaton Grimes. Jacob Morris was the builder.
The beautiful stained glass window depicting Christ facing outward to the world is titled “Come Unto Me”. It was created in 1967 by Carl Huneke, Century Stained Glass Studio, San Francisco at the request of Rev. Robert W. Horn. The window was donated by Mary Gail Cecil, Diane Cecil, and Calvert Cecil in memory of their brother, Sam Cecil. It was installed by Joe Peart and Bill Huttman.
The window is not visible from the interior of the church. Each night it can be seen shining from its lighted niche on the outside of the church just below the steeple.
