Saint Bernard's Catholic Church
163 West Eaton Avenue
Tracy
Saint Bernard’s was established as a mission near Carnegie in 1888. Italian Jesuits came from San Jose to minister to the Irish immigrants who were building the railroad.
In 1908, Archbishop Patrick William Riordan established Saint Bernard’s as a parish. The church moved several times, each time closer to the center of Tracy.
The present church was built in 1951. It was designed by San Francisco architect Martin Rist.
The traditional rose window in the choir of the church was created in 1951 by Carl Huneke, Century Stained Glass Studio, San Francisco. His angelic face and softly draped clothing grace the figure of Jesus in that window.
The newer windows in the nave, sanctuary, and baptistry of the church were designed and installed by Susan Wagner, Susan Wagner Studio, Santa Cruz, between 1989 and 1993.
