Saint Bruno Catholic Church
555 West San Bruno Avenue
San Bruno
The first masses in San Bruno were held in 1906 in a dance hall over a stable at the corner of Mills and San Bruno.
The first St. Bruno’s Church, designed in Mission style by J. J. Foley was built at the corner of Hensley and San Bruno in 1908. After being a mission of St. Catherine’s for four years, St. Bruno’s became a Parish in 1912.
The old church, which had been built with the help of many parishioners who were in the construction trades, served the Parish until 1959.
The new Mission style church at the corner of San Bruno Avenue and Green St. was designed by architects Fiedler and Green of Berkeley and built by Reardon Construction. It opened with midnight mass on Christmas Eve 1959.
The beautiful Nativity window in the choir was designed by Carl Huneke, Century Stained Glass Studio, San Francisco. That rose window was installed in 1960.
Saint Bruno’s Parish continues to thrive with addition of facilities, and the involvement of its members, in the tradition of its past.
