Saint Felicitas Catholic Church
1662 Manor Boulevard
San Leandro
The parish of Saint Felicitas was established in February 1952 with Msgr. Michael J. McGinty as pastor. An old farmhouse which stood where the rectory is located served as both rectory and chapel. The first mass was said in the basement of that building on September 7, 1952.
What is now the Msgr. Michael J. McGinty Hall was the first church. It was dedicated on June 21, 1953.
The school building and the convent were constructed in 1957-1958, and opened in 1959. Classrooms were added in 1960.
The new (present) church was dedicated on May 5, 1968. Carl Huneke, Century Stained Glass Studio created and installed the beautiful faceted glass windows in the church and in Saint Joseph Center in1969. The inch thick glass set in a thin epoxy matrix allows the carefully chipped edges of the glass to refract light in radiant colors.
In 1995, the original convent was converted into Saint Joseph Center in honor of the Sisters of Saint Joseph which had served the parish for 36 years at that time, and continue to assist. The rectory was rebuilt as a duplex residence for both priests and sisters in 1996. Fr. Wayne Campbell is the fourth pastor of the parish.
